What is Seasickness and How to Tackle it?

Seasickness depends on how your immune system activity and body are feeling while you are on the ship. In these terms, it means that you are feeling dizzy or, in the worst-case scenario, feeling you are going to vomit. It can attack anybody at any time. They can be first-time cruisers or people with experience, as an ex-Navy Seal. Seasickness is taxing to your body, and it ends up being tired and weak. This kind of state can limit the extent of freedom and enjoyment during your holidays.

There are immediate and long-term solutions you can implement to release your body from a state of sickness. Here are some of the techniques to fight seasickness.

Lying down

This is an immediate reliever of sea motion. This action tries to negate the constant sea motion and helps to retain motor control and give a slight release effect on the body. However, it is not a surefire remedy to use.

Constant hydration

The worst part about seasickness is vomiting. And sometimes it happens involuntarily. This means you are losing vital fluids like water from the body. It is better to be in a hydrated state to ease the process of getting out of the seasickness. Water will also give you the energy to get through the day.

Be conscious of the kind of foods you eat before or during the cruise. Avoid fizzy and carbonated drinks. These pump your electrolytes, which is disadvantageous when dealing with seasickness.

Know what kind of person you are

During a cruise or a sea trip, there are two kinds of people. People who get seasick regardless of anything, and people who get seasick once in a while. If you fall into the once-in-a-while category, all you need is to focus on the horizon by taking a brisk walk to the upper deck. Or simply lie down. For the first group, you can use the following drugs to enhance the process. You may either use Gravol tablets, Bonine pills, or scopolamine medication.

However, you need to be careful. The scopolamine patch can have varying side effects, but applying it is a long-term strategy. It is known to last for three days. It involves putting a small patch on the area behind your ear. Remember to wash your hands thoroughly, unless you want dilated pupils.

Distract with music or conversation

If you want to distract yourself from the feeling of exhaustion, you can unwind yourself with your favorite playlist. Or you would get to know the person near you. This practice will make you forget about your nausea and bad feeling. You will find this soothing and relaxing to your state.

Opt for chamomile tea

Chamomile is a well-known healing herb that can be helpful if you face seasickness.

Chamomile tea can assist in your sickness when you feel nauseous and reduce the level of anxiety. You may purchase this herb at usual shops or supermarkets. You can have a stash and create some chamomile tea for yourself using some hot water and a teabag. Furthermore, you will be impressed by such quick relief.
